Post-Mastectomy and Post-Radiation Recovery

At Darcy Doggett Wellness, Inc. I provide specialized services tailored for individuals undergoing breast cancer treatments such as mastectomy, lumpectomy, chemotherapy, and radiation therapy. My comprehensive recovery plans are designed to address the unique physical and emotional challenges faced by thrivers.

As a Certified Lymphedema Therapist, I incorporate advanced Manual Lymphatic Drainage (MLD), personalized massage therapies, and customized movement programs to improve lymphatic health, enhance physical recovery, and mitigate the side effects associated with cancer treatments.

These targeted therapies support each client’s physical rehabilitation, contributing to a faster and more effective recovery process.

Mind-Body Recovery Techniques

My approach to enhancing the healing process involves Mind-Body Recovery Techniques that center on nurturing both mental and emotional well-being. Guided Meditation sessions are designed to reduce stress and enhance mental clarity, helping clients find peace and focus during recovery. Deep breathing exercises aid in lymphatic flow and improve the body’s physiological response to stress, making recovery smoother.

Each treatment plan is carefully tailored to meet the individual needs of my clients, ensuring a holistic recovery experience.

Areas of Focus

Specializing in a range of health-related concerns, here’s how we can work together to enhance your well-being:

  • Lymphedema / Edema: Managing swelling and fluid retention.
  • Pain Management: Tailored approaches to reduce both chronic and acute pain.
  • Movement Improvement: Strategies to increase flexibility, strength, and ease stiffness, especially useful for conditions like Frozen Shoulder.
  • Stress and Anxiety Relief: Addressing emotional and psychological stress through therapeutic practices.

Manual Lymphatic Drainage (MLD)

Manual Lymphatic Drainage

Manual Lymphatic Drainage is a specialized, gentle therapeutic technique tailored for post-mastectomy and post-radiation breast cancer patients. This method enhances lymph flow, supporting overall health and promoting healing. Using precise, light touches, I use specialized strokes to stimulate superficial lymph vessels, effectively directing lymph fluid to nodes and facilitating waste removal. MLD is crucial in managing lymphedema, a common post-surgical complication, and aids in healing tissues affected by radiation. Benefits include faster recovery,
reduced swelling and pain, and improved immune function.

Our treatment protocol typically begins with an intensive daily phase, followed by regular maintenance sessions. Committed to long-term results, I emphasize consistent treatments for optimal outcomes. This bespoke approach ensures each client receives personalized care tailored to their unique healing journey.

Oncology – Massage and Cancer

Restorative Massage

Massage after a cancer diagnosis can be an important part of the process to help cancer patients reconnect to their bodies and their lives. The power of touch by a skilled practitioner can make the patient feel whole again. Pain along with anxiety and depression are the most often mentioned debilitating side effect of cancer.

Studies have shown massage therapy by a skilled practitioner can help manage pain from mild to severe. Insomnia, fatigue, weakness, and other complications can disrupt normal daily activities, and negatively affect a patient’s quality of life. Counteracting the patient’s experience with painful medical procedures and treatments, oncology massage can bring comfort during these difficult times.

Positive touch provides a calming, compassionate connection between the client and their massage therapist. A properly trained LMT will provide care to all cancer patients no matter where they are in the treatment process.

A variety of touch therapies can be utilized including specialized manual techniques for patients under critical medical care, light Swedish massage, light touch Reiki, shiatsu, fascial work or manual lymphatic drainage therapy.

Each session is adapted to the individual’s needs at that particular time. Session lengths may be shortened to accommodate the client’s needs.

Please discuss oncology massage with your medical team. I would be happy to reach out to your doctors to discuss the many benefits that massage and positive touch can bring to the healing process.
