Pregnancy Massage

Pregnancy massage is perhaps one of the most effective techniques for decreasing the discomforts of pregnancy; this relaxing, restorative practice allows moms-to-be to enjoy their pregnancies. Through the application of specific techniques that include positioning and support, this special massage relieves stress and soothes tight, achy muscles. Prenatal massage is designed to aid with sleep, digestion, physical pain and trimester specific issues.

At SMART Integrative Massage Group, our therapists use a special side-lying technique which makes this treatment unlike any massage you’ve ever experienced. This massage focuses on easing aches and pains that occur during this special time and settling you into a well-deserved hour of comfort and deep relaxation. Work ranges from light to deep pressure and focuses on such problems as sciatic pain, low back pain, and increased upper back and shoulder tension. Deep Tissue Sculpting and Myofascial Release help ease the discomforts of pregnancy. Light Swedish effleurage gliding strokes invoke deep relaxation and relieve stress. If you are experiencing swelling or constipation related to your pregnancy, our experienced therapists can perform a specially designed Manual Lymphatic Drainage Therapy session to reduce edema and support healthy digestion.

Postnatal massage is designed to help the body’s recovery process and to give much deserved quiet time to the new mother. Postnatal massage the new mother relief from the sleep deprivation and neck-and-shoulder aches associated with nursing and carrying a newborn. Emotionally, postnatal massage can nurture and comfort you whether or not you are experiencing postpartum “blues”. Postnatal Manual Lymphatic Drainage Therapy sessions can promote faster healing from both natural and C-section deliveries, minimize scarring from C-sections, reduce weight from fluid buildup during pregnancies, and increase milk production.

Our therapists have experience working with high-risk patients, including mothers with twin and triplet pregnancies. At home visits can be arranged for women on doctor-ordered bed rest. Physician approval may be required. Please check with your doctor to make sure that massage is right for you, particularly in the first trimester.
